Ingredient notes and substitutions
The complete list of ingredients to make this easy candied cashews recipe is above. Below are notes about some of the ingredients, along with ideas for substitutes.
Cashews – Use raw cashews in this recipe and not roasted cashews since they will be roasted with syrup and seeds.
Maple syrup – Look for the real stuff, and not pancake syrup which is made with corn syrup.
Seeds – I like the crispy texture the combination of chia seeds and quinoa adds to these sweet cashews. But you can use any type of seed that you like. Smaller seeds such as sesame or sunflower seeds are good choices.
How to store candied cashews
Store maple candied cashews in your pantry at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a month.
What to serve with maple glazed cashews
Serve these tasty cashews as they are perfect for a snack, on a charcuterie board, add them to a salad, or sprinkle them on top of Greek yogurt or ice cream.
They also make a great homemade gift for the holidays, place them into a jar and tie a pretty ribbon around it!
Recipe variations
Change up the nuts and use any combination of almonds, walnuts or pecans.
Sweet and salty cashews – add 1 teaspoon of tamari sauce or sea salt for a more savory version.
Spicy sweet cashews – add 1/4/ teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the mixing bowl.
Warm spiced cashews – add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg for warm spiced cashews.
Add extra flavor with a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, almond extract or peppermint extract.
💡Tips
- Use raw cashews and not roasted since the cashews will be roasted with syrup and seeds.
- To maintain crispness, make sure that the nuts are totally cooled off before storing them in an airtight container.
Cashews, like most nuts, are healthy. They are low in sugar, and rich in fiber and minerals. They are also a good source of plant protein. You can read more about the health benefits of cashews on Healthline.
