How to make green beans in the air fryer

Prepare the green beans: Give the green beans a good rinse under cold water and trim off the ends. Pat the beans completely dry with a clean kitchen towel.

STEP 1: Arrange the green beans on an air fryer basket or tray in a single layer – don’t over crowd which will help them cook properly. Use a pastry brush to brush on the oil and sprinkle with garlic powder.

STEP 2: Air fry at 400°F for 8 to 10 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through for even cooking. If you like them on the tender side (like we do!), aim for the longer cook time. Sprinkle with sliced almonds and serve.

No Air Fryer? The oven works too

You can still get delicious results in the oven; it just takes a few more minutes. Follow the instructions in the recipe for preparing the beans and arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with oil and garlic powder. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through in a preheated 425°F oven or until they reach your preferred texture.

Tips for making this recipe

  1. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket or pan.
  2. Dry the greenbeans well after washing.
  3. Garnish with lemon zest and parmesan cheese for extra flavor.

How to store leftovers

Once the green beans have cooled off to room temperature, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. To reheat, pop them in the microwave, air fryer, or oven or just enjoy them cold straight from the fridge. They are tasty either way.

Leftover serving idea

Chop up the leftover green beans and toss them into a garden salad for added flavor. They are especially good paired with a simple vinaigrette or lemony dressing.

Serving suggestions

These green beans pair beautifully with pork chops, chicken, shrimp or just about any entree, which makes them the perfect side for any meal. These beans are also a great addition to a holiday spread. Serve them warm for peak flavor but they are just as tasty at room temperature.

Recipe variations

Walnuts – Swap the almonds for walnuts.

Onions – Add more flavor with thinly sliced onions.

Balsamic – Add a drizzle of balsamic glaze for extra flavor.

Recipe FAQs

What’s the best type of green bean to use?

For the best texture and flavor, go with young, tender green beans or haricots verts. They are thinner and more delicate than standard green beans which means they cook up faster and stay tender without getting mushy.

Can I use frozen green beans to make this recipe?

Yes, but for the best results, thaw them first and pat them dry to remove excess moisture. They may have a softer texture, but will still taste good.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes, you can prep the gree beans and toast the almonds in advance. Store them separately and combine just before serving.
